Mom S is having her ups and downs. She ripped her IV out last night which created quite a mess in her room as well as creating a tear in her arm. She really doesn't like being hooked up to anything ... I can't say that I blame her. Yesterday before I left, she kept pulling out her oxygen tubing in her nose. Michael says her speech is worse today... We are hoping for the best in her recovery but also preparing ourselves for the worse. I'm glad that we are able to take life one day at a time! One Day At A Time by Cristy Lane is one of Mom's favorite songs ... Mom, this one's for you!!!
I was reading 1 Samuel 16-19 today. I so enjoy the stories in the Old Testament ... they bring back memories of the tales that my Sunday School teachers told using flannel boards. Everyone knows about David and Goliath!! The Lord was displeased with Saul and instructed Samuel to anoint a new king. Samuel went to the home of Jesse. When he saw Jesse's son, Eliab, he thought that this was the man God had in mind to be king. The Lord spoke to Samuel saying, "...I don't make decisions the way you do! Men judge by outward appearance, but I look at a man's thoughts and intentions."~~1 Samuel 16:7 In the end, it was David that was chosen ... a mere boy!
Aren't we all guilty of judging by outward appearances? As a former matchmaker, I would have clients who would see a photo of a beautiful lady or handsome man and decide based on looks that they just HAD TO HAVE a date with this person. Even, if I would say that this person might not be the best for them, they would insist that I do everything possible to connect them. I learned so much about human nature in the 5 years I worked in this field. Women seemed to be consumed with what a man did for a living and men more about a woman's beauty. Strange because they would use my services because former relationships had turned out badly and in their heads they knew that character was important. Yet...they were willing to throw caution to the wind time after time. Insanity!!!!!!! CHARACTER IS IMPORTANT!!!!!!
"Change your thoughts and you change your world."
Norman Vincent Peale
I love this quote by Norman Vincent Peale. Think about the words. Ever get caught up in the poor mes or just plain stinkin' thinkin'? The more you nurse and rehearse, the worse your world becomes. I learned a long time ago, that the world doesn't revolve around moi. To change my life, I needed to change my thinking and replace old tapes with positive ones. Goodness, how much better my world is today!!
Toby and I have had a good day today ... He loves to ride in the car wherever I go and is such a good natured little rascal! I am missing Khelsea but concentrating on the tail wagging at my feet! We were outside this morning ... he saw a little rabbit and was bound and determined to make it his toy. He's not a hunter like Sadie, so the rabbit got the best of him. No problem, he was soon on to his next adventure! Aren't pets wonderful? They fill our days with such joy!
I hope that you all have had a great day ... the sound of the wind chimes on the back porch are beckoning me. Think that Toby and I will have our dinner out there tonight!
Always know that you are loved and prayed for ... My reader base is expanding and I am amazed at how far reaching my blogs have become. So, until next time, I am signing off... Carpe' Diem!!

Mom - what a life changing week you have experienced! You leave Florida and suddenly your life is filled with tragedy, loss, and stress. I guess your vacation was needed. I wish I could do more, yet I know I will be in your shoes one day. As we venture into our 60's we are faced with our own mortality. Perhaps the loss of cherished family, friends, and pets make us realize what is really important. I am grateful for the time we spent together. It was filled with laughter, joy, quality, and the realities of life. Yet, life is always easier with family support. Since we are without family in Florida, your visit was like feeling the rays of sunshine after a long, cold winter.
ReplyDeleteI love you- hang in there 'cause you have books to write and an illustrator to find!!
