The voice of the father...

Happy October 7, 2012!!

It seems rather strange to have a couple days in a row of 50+ degree weather.  My sweet husband bought me a flat of Violas and I had enough to fill six pots.  Give me dirt, some pots, and a few plants and I am a happy camper!!  The Violas will last until late next Spring ~~ I just love their little faces!  Rain, snow, sleet ... they manage to survive looking pretty!

Miss Dottie & Mom 10/07/2012
We visited with Mom today at the nursing home.  It was one of those visits that made me very sad.  Mom is having a tough time holding her head up and feeding herself.  She had a crying spell this morning and the nurse called Michael to let him know that she was frantic.  I promised her I would come back tomorrow morning and take her to church.  There are rumors of respiratory issues going around which means church is iffy but it will be nice to check on her anyway.  It is so darn tough to see our loved ones decline in health and lose the ability to do for themselves.

Toby was sick last night.  He shook like a leaf and was panting heavily.  I finally got up about 1am and started googling his symptoms.  Last time I looked at the clock it was a little after 2 ... he finally calmed down enough to fall asleep.  I don't know what got into him but he seems okay today.  He's still pretty clingy but that's just him...

While I was up tending to Toby, I kept thinking about yesterday at the ball park.  Sometimes, the Lord uses every day events to make his point.  First of all, we have earthly fathers ... because of the time we spend with them, we know their voices.  Nicholas was out on the field and his earthly father was yelling to him.  Nicholas looked up and looked towards third base.  Out of all the voices on the ball field, Nicholas knew which voice to respond to.  When Tommy speaks to his sons, they know he loves them and looks out for their best interests.  They know when their father is happy, sad, angry, loving, or teaching  depending on the tone of his voice and what he says to them.

If this is true, what about our Heavenly Father?  Do you know his voice when he calls you whether from afar or close enough to whisper?  Believe it or not, our Heavenly Father loves us even more than our earthly father.  He wants us to know him, to listen to his wisdom, and be obedient.  I never got in trouble when I was obedient to his ways.  You say, "Well, God doesn't talk to me."  I say, "Ask Him a question, open your Bible ... what does He say?"  I say, "Give God the first fruits of your day in prayer, then shut your yap and listen."  Not too difficult...  Would the man who died for you on the cross give you bum advice??

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.~~Isaiah 55:8

Prayer + Bible Reading = Relationship with God

For those of us who call ourselves Christians, we need to know who we call Master and Lord of our lives.  Either we follow Him or we don't.  Oh, we're sinners all right ... and we all fall short of the glory of God.  Yet, when we know what's right and deliberately sin, then, there's something amiss.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.~~2 Timothy 3:16-17

The day is ending ... night is near ... the flickering of the logs in the fireplace draw me in to thoughts of the gift of today and the promise of tomorrow.  It's Miss Dottie signing off ... always remember you are loved and prayed for ... YA YOU!!

  1. Michael's mom is such a dear--I love how she has her nails painted bright red. She manages to put a smile on her face for the camera even though she isn't feeling well.

Yeah for Tommy....he is such a fantastic dad and I love seeing the pictures of him with his boys!!
